In May we performed a Variety Concert at the Eltham Community Centre. The Beginner Strings played Kings of Stone by Keith Sharp, and Kalinka (traditional), and Jayson Zahra and Charlotte Tyler performed a duet by Playel with Mary Wright. The String Ensemble performed the Bach Double Violin Concerto with soloists Peter and Elizabeth Davitcos, and an arrangement of Lord of the Dance. The Eltham Orchestra played the overture to Iolanthe, Grieg's Norwegian Dance No 2, Pachelbel's Canon, Highlights from Harry Potter, and Mozart's Symphony No 1. Soloists from Diamond Valley Singers performed several songs from Iolanthe.

The July theatre performance was 'Iolanthe', with the Diamond Valley Singers at Warrandyte High School theatre.

Our concert in November, in conjunction with Surrey Hills Orchestra, included The Magic Flute overture, Ancient Airs and Dances by Respighi, and the Dvorak New World Symphony. The Beginner Strings and the Eltham String Ensemble also participated impressively.

2009

In March we presented a Sunday afternoon program of popular music at the Latrobe Retirement Village, Bundoora, in collaboration with the Diamond Valley Singers. Our works included a movement from the Haydn 'Clock' symphony, part of Handel's Water Music and Zadoc the Priest, the Pirates of Penzance overture, and a highlight being The Typewriter (Leroy Anderson) played by Derek Wright.

In May our concert at the Eltham Community Centre celebrated Handel, with selections from the Water Music. Other items were from the Clock Symphony by Haydn and the Pirates of Penzance, and The Typewriter got another outing. The String Ensemble and the Beginner Strings performed at an excellent standard and we welcomed a visit from two soloists from Carousel, Gerard Schneider and Esther Counsel, accompanied by Ian Lowe.

The July theatre performance was 'Carousel', performed with the Diamond Valley Singers at Warrandyte High School theatre.

Our November/December program in conjunction with the Surrey Hills Orchestra included the Nabucco Overture by Verdi, The Typewriter by Leroy Anderson, Pavane by Maurice Ravel, the Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 by J.S. Bach (with the Eltham String Ensemble), and the Symphony No. 8 by Beethoven; the Beginner Strings also performed a number of works.
